Founder/CEO Advising
Starting a company is lonely. You have to make difficult decisions every day with imperfect information on problems you’ve likely never faced before. Conflicting advice from customers, colleagues, investors, and partners complicates things and creates even more uncertainty. Add on the complexities of managing cash flow, employee management, and making proper bets. It’s daunting. As founders (especially first-time founders), no one prepares us for the challenges and rigor which is required day-in and day-out. Having someone to talk to, someone who understands you, your philosophy, your business, can not only be extremely valuable in building a more successful business; but, it can help pull you up during the low times you'll inevitably face. What no one tells you, is the emotional toll starting a business can place upon you and your relationships. To compound the stress comes a public spotlight, employees looking to you for strength and guidance, and an ever-growing set of expectations placed upon you.It was a challenge for us, and the support we had along the way was critical to the success we had.

FAQs
You have questions. We have answers. If we missed something, don't hesitate to reach out and ask!
How to get started?
Feel free to schedule time on our calendar or reach out to us on LinkedIn: Trevor Halstead or Ryan Corey - alternatively, complete our free go-to-market assessment and we can schedule a free consultation to get to know one another better.
Who are we?
👋 Trevor Halstead & Ryan Corey. We are the founders of Cybrary, a venture-backed cybersecurity training company. During our time there, we had over 4,000,000 users, generated over $75m in revenue, grew to over 100 employees, and raised $46m in venture capital.
Do you have experience in B2B?
Cybrary’s B2B revenue hovered between 60-70% of total revenue. We created a unique B2C2B go-to-market motion to acquire consumers and position ourselves for mid-market and enterprise deals.
Who do we work with?
We partner with pre-Seed to Series B startups to craft and execute Go-to-Market strategies that pave the way to predictable revenue. We also welcome bootstrapped businesses that are looking for RevOps services.
How does k.factor work?
We serve as your Revenue Operations leader and team—whether it’s Marketing, Sales, Business Development, or Customer Success—or we can function as an extension of your existing team. Once onboarding is complete, you submit requests through your dashboard, and we deliver with an average turnaround time of 48 hours, depending on complexity. We bring a range of competencies to assist with Whether you want to work together to craft your strategy, refine your marketing & positioning, improve your sales pitch, develop
What types of tasks can I request?
Once onboarded, we'll have a shared workspace to add, manage, and prioritize requests.Example 1: We can act as product marketers. You would input "create a monthly update to our current customers based."Example 2: We can act as an SDR. You would input something similar to: "Here is a lead list of 50 potential targets. Act as an SDR and create a multi-touch point outreach program for this lead list. Our goal is 10 meetings for our sales team." We'd get you 10 meetings for your sales team.Example 3: "We need to develop a new case study". In this case, we would work to define the various customer segments and use cases and ensure we have defined our ICP and are creating one which will help the business market and sell into that segment.Example 4: "Audit and optimize our Hubspot CRM". We'd map out the customer journey and sales process, determine the current set up and data being captured, then proceed with modifications to Hubspot; or, in some cases, we may recommend re-implementation of Hubspot.
Why wouldn't I hire a full-time Chief Revenue Officer?
Hiring a full-time CRO typically costs between $250,000 to $385,000 annually, plus 0.5% to 2.0% equity. This kind of compensation package can be a heavy burden for early-stage startups, and even then, a CRO may not fully integrate into all the operational aspects of your team. In our experience, most leaders will want to bring in additional talent to help with operational execution (which means more costs to the business). Our approach brings CRO-level strategic leadership with hands-on execution in marketing, sales, and revenue operations—without the overhead of a full-time hire.
How many hours do we get?
All of our plans come with advising and operating services. As advisors we make ourselves available to you as needed, but we schedule 4, 60-minute calls a month to talk through whatever you need, or for us to work together on strategy. As operators, we act as your Revenue Operations Leader & Team (Marketing, Sales, Business Development, and Customer Success) or an extension of what you already have in place. We don't assign a set number of hours; rather, after onboarding is complete, we’ll operate out of a shared workspace and you/your team can input requests into your dashboard and we return the work with an average completion time of 48 hours. Of course, more complex tasks can take longer.
How does the founder/CEO advising work?
Starting a business is a heavy lift. It is stressful, difficult, slow, daunting. Sometimes, you need someone who isn't on your board to talk through strategies and issues within the business (or even issues with your board). Informally, we are here for whatever you need, whenever you need us. Formally, we schedule 4, 60-minute monthly calls. The agenda of those calls can be set by you, or we can lead them - discussing where we can take the business, how to grow the team, where the opportunities are.
